Job Description

WNET New York Public Media is offering an undergraduate fellowship funded by the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation, Inc. for distinguished students who meet the following criteria:

  • Is a member of a minority group as defined by the EEOC, i.e., Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Asian or Other Pacific Islander, American Indian or Alaska Native ;
  • Is at least a first semester junior (completed sophomore year) at an accredited educational institution;
  • Has completed at least one applied course in their major;
  • Has at least a 2.5 overall grade point average.
  • Project topics will be varied and will expose students to such areas as broadcast/online production, educational programming and outreach, news and public affairs, culture and arts, documentaries and production for the internet and related distribution platforms. The fellowship works alongside our internship program, so if you apply to the Reginald F. Lewis Fellowship, please also apply to one of our Fall 2019 internships.

    A maximum of three Fellowships will be awarded during Summer and/or Fall of 2019. Those who have been determined by their schools to meet the above criteria will then undergo the screening process for the available fellowship positions. Length of each Fellowship will be between 10 and 12 weeks and students will be paid an hourly wage of $15.00 per hour, not to exceed 24 hours in a given week. Colleges, at their discretion, may award participating students academic credit for the fellowship but participating students may not concurrently receive an additional stipend.

    Additional Requirements:

    Please submit a one-page written statement about your interest in the Reginald Lewis Fellowship that includes the reasons why you applied for the fellowship, why you believe you should be selected over other candidates and what you hope to gain from this fellowship.

    Fellows are required to attend an orientation session during the course of the program. If you are selected for the fellowship, you will also be required to submit a comprehensive summary of your experiences due at the conclusion of your term that will be submitted to the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation, Inc. and reviewed by its Board of Directors.The report must be submitted within two weeks of completing the fellowship.
