Within delegated authority the Intern will be required to perform the following:
Assist with routine administrative tasks related to the work of the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) and its support to the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and the Department of Political Affairs (DPA)-led peace operations world-wide;
Process incoming and outgoing correspondence and assist with the organization of official travel;
Input, manage and track large quantities of data related to justice and corrections experts nominated for service with UN peace operations;
Assist in organizing conferences and meetings;
Assist desk officers in supporting specific peace operations, with research and other related tasks;
Organize and coordinate meetings with Permanent Missions;
Accompany JCS staff to meetings with delegates from Permanent Missions, to meetings with other Secretariat offices and to sessions of the Security Council, General Assembly and other multilateral meetings;
Assist with note-taking and writing summaries/action points of internal and external meetings;
Assist with the preparation of public information/ social media material, presentations and documents for senior JCS staff members;
Perform any other functions as requested by the supervisor.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Experience in law, human rights or international public law or working to develop rule of law institutions or legal systems in a developmental, transitional or post-conflict setting or time spent working in a post-conflict environment, in the United Nations system, in particular in a United Nations peace operation, is an asset. Experience administering and developing content for social media platforms is highly desirable.Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship position fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.Assessment
