The United Nations plays a vital role in promoting and defending Human Rights across the globe. The UN Foundation supports the UN's work to ensure everybody can enjoy the rights contained in the UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and accompanying international laws and treaties. As Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms come under pressure across the globe this task is more urgent than ever. The UNF New York Office monitors, tracks and analyzes developments relating to Human Rights in the United Nations General Assembly, Security Council and Human Rights Council. This work helps inform the UN Foundations wider policy work including engagement within the United States.
The Intern will report to the Policy Adviser, Human Rights, New York Office.
Tracking the work of the UN General Assembly Third (Human Rights) Committee, the UN Human Rights Council and relevant debates in the Security Council.
Track UN activity in respect of the inclusion of persons with disability and LGBTI diversity.
Assist with UNF engagement with the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR).
Support activities related to the upcoming U.S. Universal Periodic Review including engagement with UNA-USA Chapters.
Attend UN meetings and side events relevant to UN Foundation priorities and report back on highlights.
Support research and assist with background documents and meeting preparation.
Assist with preparation, execution, and follow-up of UN Foundation events and meetings.
Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be arecent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
Candidate is ideally expected to work full-time, although we are able to accommodate students' schedules as needed.
Strong research, writing, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter - while also contributing to a strong team environment.
Experience with supporting the planning and execution of events.
Fast and organized learner with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Interest in the United Nations, International Development, Global Health, Sustainability, International Affairs and/or the non-profit sector highly preferred.

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid semester-long full and part-time internships. We are happy to host interns who are able to receive academic credit or a stipend through their college or university. However, please note that it is not a requirement in order to intern with us.
