Position description

The Material Technology Group works closely with Saint Gobain's various business units to solve problems, develop new materials and products, and improve manufacturing processes to support the development of innovative products as required by our High Performance Solutions and Building Materials Divisions. The candidate will be expected to manage R&D projects in the areas of formulation, characterization, and processing of polymeric-based materials with a specific focus on the stabilization of different formulation using surfactants, additives, and complexes to allow efficient wet-coating and extrusion processes for the development of new innovative products. The candidate will spend most of his/her time at designing experiments, performing laboratory work, analyzing/present data in written and oral format, and closely work with the rest of the team in the field of Polymeric Materials Development. The candidate with give direction of junior engineers, technicians and other participants during experiments at the lab, pilot, & large industrial scales.

* Carries out role as primary project investigator for 2-3 projects
* Recommend innovative project initiatives consistent with customer needs.
* Develop the polymer formulation competencies in line with Saint-Gobain businesses.
* Communicate end results clearly to a large, diverse organization and stakeholders. Holds team members to the same expectation.
* Ensure that intellectual property is captured and protected through proper procedures.
* Participate in technical conferences, author appropriate articles/reports and be active in professional societies.
* Continually champion efforts to drive HSE environment consciousness in the organization.

More specifically, the candidate will:

* Utilizes broad technical background and experience to develop and/or improve products, and process performance.
* Stays aware of new technology applications and competitive uses of same in work with materials, products and processes, and in development of new knowledge and applies this to personal research/ products.
* Lead 2-3 projects simultaneously with team members having multi-disciplinary background.
* Deliver milestones on time within budget to meet customer objectives, and continuously document work via written reports.
* Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.
* Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.
* Able to communicate technically with internal competencies, university collaborators and customers and utilize knowledge to advance projects and identify productive synergies
* Is seen as a people leader by others.
* Establishes network across center and BU's to leverage R&D capabilities for own business.
* Establish contacts and collaborations internally and externally.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor with 7+ years of experience, MS with 3+ years of experience, or entry level PhD Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Chemical Engineering.
* Industrial Internship of R&D experience with formulation/mixing /dispersion of polymeric materials preferred
* Industrial Internship of R&D Experience with wet-coating and extrusion processes preferred
