Interns at NYPR are given a robust internship program with hands-on responsibilities. The goal of our internship program is to provide our interns with a substantive, meaningful work experience so that each intern concludes the internship period with demonstrable skills in their area of interest, plus knowledge of public radio, in general.

Interns play a vital role in NYPR s daily operations in almost every department of our organization from the Newsroom and our daily, weekly and weekend programs, to Marketing, Development, and Engineering.

WNYC Studios is looking for interns who are passionate about podcasts and storytelling to assist with the production of a new 7-part documentary series focusing on Cuba-American comedian, his family, and Cuban history.

We are looking for applicants who are voraciously curious about a wide variety of subjects, and who are enthusiastic learners with an ability to work independently. Most of our tape is in Spanish, and we would prefer a native Spanish speaker for this role. We also prefer some journalism, research and sound-editing experience, ideally with Pro Tools.

What your internship will entail:

  • Participate in many aspects of the show's production.
  • Participate in editorial meetings, provide research assistance, and perform a range of administrative tasks involved in the daily running of the series.
  • The opportunity to learn audio production skills and to receive constructive feedback on your work
  • Collecting and managing digital assets for shows
  • Logging tape
  • Transcriptions, and cleaning up translations
  • Requirements:

  • Enthusiastic learners with an ability to work independently
  • Native Spanish-speaker preferred or fully bilingual (with full fluency, written and spoken in Spanish)
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail
  • Ideally some sound-editing experience, preferably with Pro Tools
  • If you would like to be considered for this role you must submit:

    1) Your resume

    2) A brief cover letter explaining why you want to be our intern.

    3) In what ways do you think you can contribute to WNYC Studios?

    4) Tell us the best thing you ve read, heard, or seen this week (give us a few sentences.)

    5) Lastly, what s your favorite podcast, and what specifically do you love about? It doesn t need to be made by us!

Please include your full name in the header or footer of every page of your application.

Any student (undergraduate or graduate) or person who has graduated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the internship period to which he/she is applying. Because this is an paid internship, interns must be authorized to work in the United States.

Interns are eligible to receive college credit.

New York Public Radio must receive all information requested in order to consider your candidacy.
