Job Description:

The Future Talent Program features internships that last up to 12 weeks and will include one or more projects. These opportunities in our Research Labs can provide you with great development and a chance to see if we are the right company for your long-term goals.

The Scientific Engineering and Design group designs and fabricates custom instrumentation, equipment and automation for our company's Research Laboratories. The group is offering a summer internship opportunity for an undergraduate student to learn how to design custom instruments that impact the drug discovery process in the 'Big Pharma' setting. The summer intern will become a member of the Engineering group and work in a team environment to design/fabricate novel instruments and equipment. Depending on the type of projects in which the lab is engaged at the time of the internship, activities that the intern may have the opportunity to undertake include, but are not limited to:

- Interface with Research Labs scientific staff to establish a list of functional requirements.
- Brainstorm on ideas and techniques to solve the problem at hand.
- Design analytical, control and/or data acquisition instrumentation and associated electronics.
- Develop custom software.
- Develop schematic diagrams.
- Design and build printed circuit boards.
- Design mechanical hardware using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software.
- Specify, select and purchase parts and materials.
- Assist in fabricating custom mechanical parts utilizing CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) software and programmable milling machines, lathes, and a variety of shop tools.
- Assemble and test the developed equipment.
- Write user manuals and document projects.

Required Education and Experience:

- Candidates must be currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical, computer/software, mechanical, or biomedical engineering.
- Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in May or June of 2020.
- Candidates must have strong computer skills.
- Candidates must have a hands-on mindset and work ethic.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

- Candidates should have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Candidates should have knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Candidates should be proficient in computer programming languages (include C#, SQL, Visio, etc.).
